Lyceo is a private language academy on the web, built around a simple stance: learn from a real tutor, not a slot machine. There are no streaks or gems. A patient, exacting teacher takes learners from their first words to fluency and marks their work as they go. Le Prof teaches French, El Profe teaches Spanish, and the standard is the same in both.

The Challenge
Understanding the problem space and identifying key obstacles.
Language learning apps have a trust problem. The popular ones optimize for daily streaks and points, which keeps people opening the app but rarely gets them to real fluency. Learners who are serious, including those preparing for exams like the DELF or DELE, are left without a tool that actually teaches and holds them to a standard.
The goal was to build the opposite: a calm, rigorous academy that feels like a private tutor. That meant generating genuine teaching content and unlimited, non-repetitive practice, grading free-text answers fairly, and wrapping it all in accounts and billing so it could run as a real subscription business rather than a demo.

We built Lyceo as a full product, pairing an AI teaching engine with the structure and polish of a proper academy.
How we built it

AI that teaches, not just quizzes: The platform uses Claude to write lessons, generate a fresh question set on every attempt, and grade open responses with explanations, so practice never runs out and always meets the learner where they are.

A fixed, trustworthy ladder: Curriculum is seeded once and then held stable from A1 to C2, so progression never shifts under a learner, with exam tracks for DELF, DALF, and DELE.

Multi-language from the foundation: French and Spanish share one engine and one standard, with the architecture ready for more languages without a rebuild.

A complete business layer: Authentication, a free opening unit, and per-language Stripe subscriptions with a multi-language discount, all designed and operated in house.
